Home & Garden

Sourcing & Export Support for Home & Garden

Home and garden is a broad category that crosses three very different factory types: solid-wood and engineered-board furniture (Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shandong), stainless-steel/ceramic/glass kitchenware (Chaozhou/Foshan/Yongkang), and injection-moulded or metal garden hand tools and planters (Ningbo, Taizhou). A single mistake in matching SKU category to factory type (e.g., buying solid oak dining tables from a plastic-injection factory that "also does furniture") is how you get catastrophic transit breakage rates above 20%. We match each SKU to the correct region/cluster, use a tailored drop-test and food-contact testing plan per sub-category, and inspect container loading so a 1,200 kg 20ft marble-top dining set doesn't shift in transit.

What We Source

All major home and garden sub-categories, from flat-pack kitchen cabinets to ceramic dinnerware and garden planters. Each sub-category gets its own inspection plan, not a generic "check every SKU the same way" approach.

  • Home decor — throw pillows, rugs, curtains, wall art, vases, candles, diffusers, LED strip lights, table lamps, decorative mirrors, artificial plants/flowers.
  • Kitchenware & cookware — stainless steel pots/pans, non-stick aluminium cookware sets, ceramic bakeware, dinnerware sets, drinking glasses, cutlery sets, knives, kitchen organisers, silicone utensils, chopping boards, oil & vinegar bottles.
  • Household goods — flat-pack bedroom furniture (beds, wardrobes, chest of drawers, nightstands), dining sets, sofas & upholstery, coffee tables, TV units, shelves, shoe racks, laundry baskets, storage boxes.
  • Garden & outdoor — patio furniture (PE rattan, aluminium, teak), BBQ grills & accessories, garden hand tools (spades, rakes, pruners, shears), planters & pots, garden hoses & sprinklers, solar garden lights, gazebos & parasols, outdoor cushions, decorative garden fencing.

Standard Specifications & Packaging

Home goods fail at the point of packaging first, and material spec second. Flat-pack furniture with 12mm particleboard sold as "16mm MDF" is the most common complaint we see in rework. Packaging for glass/ceramic is the second: 14%+ breakage in a 40ft container when the factory uses single-layer styrofoam instead of EPS+corner-block+double-wall.

  • Material specs — wood furniture (particleboard/MDF/plywood/oak/rubberwood/acacia/teak) specified on purchase order with board thickness, density, E0/E1 formaldehyde grade, melamine/PVC/veneer finish; upholstery (fabric composition, GSM, rub count, foam density 28D/32D/35D); stainless steel grade 304 vs 430 vs 201 vs 410 specified explicitly for food contact; ceramic food-contact glaze specified to cadmium/lead limits.
  • Glass & ceramic packaging — single-piece polyfoam clamshell, corner guards, 5-ply double-wall master carton; pack method verified by ISTA-2A or ASTM D4169 fall-and-vibration test on first 3 samples before 1,000-pc production run.
  • Flat-pack furniture — 6-sided styrofoam + cardboard corner protection + shrink-wrap + 5/7-ply export master; hardware polybag (bolts, dowels, Allen keys, L-shape wrench) sealed with master-bag label + assembly instructions (multi-lingual) inside; ISTA-3A drop test for 50 kg + gross cartons.
  • Kitchen & electrical — EU 220V/50Hz Schuko, UK BS1363, US 120V NEMA 5-15, AU/NZ SAA AS/NZS 3112 plug pins matched to destination market; power cord length explicitly stated on PO so importer complaints of "cable was 0.9m not 1.2m" don't happen post-arrival.
  • Branding & labeling — multilingual manuals & assembly instructions (English/Spanish/French/Arabic/Portuguese/Russian as required); UPC/EAN barcodes on retail-ready SKUs; hang tags & care labels for upholstery fabrics; country-of-origin marking on each unit, not just carton.

Compliance & Export Documentation

Home & garden crosses many sub-category compliance borders: kitchenware = food-contact rules, electrical kitchen appliances = low-voltage and EMC directives, upholstered furniture = fire-safety and formaldehyde rules, flat-pack board products = CARB TSCA Title VI formaldehyde (US) and EN 312/E1 formaldehyde (EU). We map each sub-SKU to its own regulator framework and build the test plan before cutting/moulding starts.

  • Factory-side verification — actual CARB TSCA/E1 board supplier CoC followed to purchase records; LFGB/FDA food-contact glaze/stainless test records; electrical appliance actual CB/CE LVD report numbers cross-checked against issuing body public search.
  • Standard export set — Commercial invoice, packing list (per SKU/carton breakdown + weight/volume per carton), CCPIT Certificate of Origin, MSDS for chemical-containing items (adhesives, cleaning products, candles), and timber / bamboo FSC CoC if you require certified material.
  • Food-contact kitchenware — EU 1935/2004 + specific measures (ceramic 84/500/EEC lead/cadmium, stainless steel EN 13880, plastics EU 10/2011, silicone LFGB § 30/31 LMBG Germany), US FDA 21 CFR, GB 4806 China (where re-imported or export-tested), California Prop 65.
  • Furniture & upholstery — CARB TSCA Title VI composite wood formaldehyde (US), EN 312 E1/E0, BS 5852 upholstery fire retardancy (UK/IE), Cal TB117-2013 (California upholstery foam); sofa/bed flammability (US 16 CFR 1632/1633 mattresses).
  • Electrical kitchen appliances — CE LVD/EMC/RED + RoHS (EU), UKCA (UK), FCC Part 15B+EMC (US), EAC (EAEU/Russia), SABER/SASO PCC + shipment CoC (Saudi), ESMA EQ Mark (UAE/GCC low-voltage regulated).
  • Garden chemicals/fertilisers & outdoor tools — pesticides/fertilisers only sourced with appropriate importer-registration pathway agreed in advance (we don't ship regulated pesticides without your country-valid registration); hand and power garden tools per EU/US/EAC tool safety + CE/UKCA/EAC as applicable.

Order Structure

  • MOQ: typically 100 pcs small decor; 200–500 pcs kitchenware sets; 50–200 pcs flat-pack or upholstery per SKU (depends on factory MOQ on tooling and fabric/finish choice); mixed-SKU container consolidations encouraged.
  • Private label & custom: available from 1,000 pcs SKU combined; custom box artwork, branding print/laser engraving/decal, fabric custom-dye or pattern weave, and custom packaging (window box, gift box, retail hang-pack) subject to tooling/NRE where needed.
  • Lead times: 10–20 days for existing mould/tool/catalogue SKUs; 25–45 days for new tooling / upholstery fabric / wood finish / custom box artwork; +2–3 weeks around CNY/Golden Week holidays.
  • Payment: 30% deposit upon order confirmation + any tooling / sample / pre-production artwork fees; 70% balance upon AQL final inspection + container load supervision photos + B/L copy; rework/remake responsibility is in writing on the PO.
  • Pre-shipment inspection: Final AQL 2.5/4.0 general inspection; food-contact kitchen SKUs get random sampling for lab batch-test verification of the glaze/stainless/plastic specification; glass/ceramic master cartons random drop-test 2 of every 20 cartons at loading; furniture assembly attempt (1 flat-pack unit) on every third container to ensure hardware bag accuracy and instructions readability.

Who This Is For

Home-goods importers, supermarket and category buyers, hotel and FF&E (furniture, fixtures & equipment) procurement teams, Amazon and Wayfair private-label furniture and kitchenware sellers, and e-commerce brands who have specific food-contact or composite-wood compliance requirements in their home market and need a partner who understands a dining set and a dinner plate don't share the same inspection or test plan.
